The Difficult Dream of Matteo - 2017

First sales? A disaster. But full of enthusiasm and with my heart in my throat, I took my wine to wine shops and restaurants in the area.

No one showed the slightest interest. The price was very high, of course, after all I had spent to bring him into existence. And then, even worse, he was different from everything they knew: he had a soul of his own, he was unique. And you know, when you encounter something unknown, you often have a hard time appreciating it.
β€œI don't like it.”
β€œIt's strange.”
β€œIt's not what we expected.”
But I grew up in a family that has always drunk the great wines of Italy and France, and I knew that what I had created was good. Very good. Whenever I organized blind tastings, my wine would come out on top and often emerge. So why didn't anyone want to give me a chance? Meanwhile, the money was running out. And I kept going into debt just to maintain the absurd level of quality I had set for myself. I had zero business experience, but a passion that burned strong. I think it was my persistence that saved me. Some people, perhaps intrigued by my young age, perhaps infected by my enthusiasm, had begun to give me confidence, buying a few cases or putting my wine on the list.
As often happens in true stories, the unexpected comes along. People in the industry - sommeliers, distributors, more forward-thinking restaurateurs - taste that strange and different wine. They start calling me, wanting to distribute it, export it, have it in their establishments.
The dream, against all logic, was taking shape.

We break
the rules

and we like it
that way
